Christine Morris

Christine has worked in a range of public health and health promotion positions including ten years in tobacco control with the Cancer Councils of SA and WA. Christine is currently working in a senior policy role in the South Australian Public Sector. She was the Director of Health Promotion for SA Dental Service for 13 years. She has had a strong focus on reducing inequities that contribute to poor oral health and on raising awareness of the importance of health literacy and consumer engagement in improving patient experience.   Christine has been on several state and national public health committees and served as a national Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) board member and made a Fellow of PHAA in 2008. Christine was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to travel to the USA and Canada to investigate peer programs in tobacco control in 1997.   In 2007 and 2010 she was awarded Travel Fellowships to travel to Canada and the UK to share best practice on oral health in children. She has presented extensively at national and international conferences on oral health promotion and oral public health. In 2012 the Health Promotion Division received an international award for outstanding scientific excellence in clinical health promotion for their work in oral health and smoking cessation. In 2013 she was awarded the PHAA Health Promotion Individual Service Award. In 2014 the Aboriginal Oral Health Program was a finalist in the South Australian Health Awards in recognition of the outstanding achievements in this program.   Christine joined the Oral Health Advisory Panel to advocate for improving the oral health of the community particularly using population strategies, policy and improving environments to support people to make healthy choices.
